*Featured Patient – Morris*

Morris is a handsome young French bulldog. When just 3.5 months old, he developed a small swelling on the left side of his abdomen. His owners treated it with warm compresses to see if it would resolve on its own. A month later it had not improved so a small sample from the area was sent to the lab for analysis. Morris had a mast cell tumor. These tumors are common in dogs older than Morris and can sometimes be cancerous. Luckily this was not the case for Morris and the tumor was successfully removed.

A few months after the tumour was removed he developed a left ear infection which cleared up with medication and routine cleaning. Less than two weeks after that a new swelling developed between two of his hind toes. His parents were worried that it might be another mast cell tumor but this time it was caused by speargrass which had punctured the webbing between his toes. The speargrass was removed and after a course of antibiotics the infection resolved.

Then Morris developed another infection, this time involving both ears. Another round of ear medication and regular cleanings solved the issue.

Morris and his family have encountered health obstacles throughout his young life and have successfully met and overcome them each time. Morris is a lucky boy to have such a kind and caring family to look after him so well.
